Maj. (res.) Oren Stern

Maj. (res.) Oren Stern was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to protecting the community of kibbutz Netiv Ha’asara. At the age of 49, on October 7th, 2023, he tragically lost his life while defending his neighbors from a terrorist attack. Oren served as a vital member of the local security team, always ready to lend a helping hand and ensuring the safety of those around him.

Described by his neighbors as a kind-hearted and friendly man, Oren was known for his constant smile and willingness to assist others. On that fateful Shabbat morning, he exemplified his bravery by shielding his community members from harm with his own body. Pushing the terrorists away from their homes, Oren's selfless act of heroism ultimately cost him his life.

During his funeral, Oren's sister-in-law expressed the deep void that his absence created. She emphasized that it was incomprehensible to accept that they would never see him again. Oren's entire being was characterized by his boundless generosity and his inability to say no. He was a genuinely good person, humble and down-to-earth, with a perpetual and shy smile that warmed the hearts of all who knew him. His sister-in-law expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the impact he had on her children, her family, and herself. Oren was the beloved uncle, always full of humor, care, and unwavering presence.

Oren will forever be remembered by his brother Ayal and his parents Tova and Mickey.
