Sgt. Shalev dagan
Shalev’s team was patrolling the Gaza Border and alongside his company’s deputy commanding officer and another comrade - he served as a first responder to Hamas’s surprise attack. After receiving a call for help from one of the border posts, Shalev’s team responded to the call, and subsequently their armed vehicle was shot by an RPG missile, killing Shalev’s commanding officer and Shalev.
Shalev’s father, Yoel, also served in Golani both during his mandatory service and in reserves. Yoel and Shalev would often serve together and participate in army drills together when Yoel came to reserves.
His mother, Flor, expressed “there was nobody who didn’t love Shalev. When he walked into a room - the room lit up.”
Shalev is described by his loved ones as full of energy, endless talent and charisma, Shalev excelled at school, loved sports and enjoyed life to its fullest. Shalev couldn’t be ignored. His sharp wit, intelligence and humor, alongside a charming smile, concealed a humble character and a good heart.
In response to the loss of Shalev, over $16,000 was raised in his memory. All proceeds went to supporting combat soldiers fighting in Gaza and families affected by the war.
Shalev is survived by his parents, Yoel and Flor, and his twin brother, Omer.
