Staff Sgt. Shirel Haim Pour

Staff Sgt. Shirel Haim Pour was a remarkable individual who tragically fell in battle on October 7th, 2023, while serving as a soldier in the Northern Brigade, Gaza Division on the Nahal Oz base.

At just 20 years old, Shirel had already displayed tremendous dedication and bravery throughout her military service.

The weekend of October 7th was meant to be a celebration, as Shirel was preparing to complete her army service. However, her selflessness and commitment to protecting others knew no bounds. Even though she was off duty, when she heard of an imminent terrorist threat, she immediately rushed to the war room to warn others. Ignoring the danger that awaited her, Shirel fearlessly put herself in harm's way to ensure the safety of those around her.

Tragically, as the terrorists set the room ablaze, Shirel refused to abandon her post. She continued to send out warnings, fully aware of the grave risks she faced. Her unwavering determination and refusal to back down in the face of danger serve as a testament to her extraordinary character and unwavering commitment to her mission.

During her funeral, her brother, Barak Haim Pour, spoke deeply moving words that perfectly encapsulated Shirel's essence. He acknowledged her choice to fight and carry out her duty rather than seek safety. He highlighted how she had chosen to help others, and through her dedicated work, she had touched the lives of countless individuals. The world, he emphasized, had gained many pure souls because of her, but it had also lost a pure soul that was truly one of a kind.

Shirel will forever be immortalized in the hearts and memories of her grieving parents, Eli and Tzameret, as well as her three older brothers, Barak, Netanel, and Lior.
